What is an iPS cell? (3)
A
- Induced pluripotent stem cells
- Pluripotent ESC like cells (can differentiate into all 3 germ layers)
- Generated with transcription factors by reprogramming somatic cells (ie: skin fibroblasts)

How were iPS cells created? (3)
A
- 2006 by Dr. Yamanaka @ Kyoto University
- 2007, generated human iPS cells from human skin fibroblasts
- Transcription factors used: Oct4, Sox2, Nanog, & Lin28 (Nanog/Lin28 not used in mouse iPS production)
