Stella is trying to stand up to Stanley but cannot articulate this properly as it is probably a rare occasion

Stella demonstrates the ideal role of a women - to be a mother and serve her husband

This suggests she seems like she has been drugged - drugged on desire

Stella knows she must obey Stanley but is conflicted as Blanche is her sister and also deep down knows what Stanley has said is probably true
‘Mr Kowalski is too busy making a pig of himself’
They are both being sarcastic - Stella is mimicking Blanche as she is being influence by her
‘Stella begins to cry weakly’
She is powerless compared to Stanley
‘Looking at that girls face’
Stella referring to Blanche as a girl shows the role reversal between the two - Stella is know the one taking on a mothering role
‘As if some interior voice had called her name’
Stella’s baby acts almost like a clock in the play - when she gives birth this is the end for Blanche - new south has ultimately taken over
‘I couldn’t believe her story and go on living with Stanley’
Although Stella cares for Blanche, Stanley allows her to keep on living as he fulfils her desires and brings back money for her - he is her way into the New South
‘Eunice is holding Stella’s arm’
Eunice is acting like a sister to Stella as Blanche can no longer perform any such role
‘Don’t let them to do that to her, don’t let them hurt her’
Stella is always portrayed to be powerless in all situations - role of women in society
‘Eunice descends to Stella and places the child in her arms’
This is symbolic as Blanche is Stella’s past life which is being take away and Stella is left with her new life with her child
