Stave 2 Flashcards
‘It was a strange figure- like a child’
This simile gives a vulnerability to the ghost.
‘He (Scrooge) was conscious of a thousand odours floating in the air’
The sense of smell is evoked to bring back the past. The sense of sight is evoked when he sees all the people he remembers.
‘So full of merry music that the crisp air laughed to hear it.’
Personification of the air emphasises the feeling of happiness linked to the past when Scrooge was a boy.
‘I should like to have given him something.’
Shows Scrooge already feels remorse for how he treated the carol singer in stave 1 and is already slowly beginning to change.
‘his calves shone like moons’
The simile giving his dancing a magical feel shows how energetic and happy Fezziwig is.
