Statistical testing Flashcards
what are descriptive stats
allow you to describe data and draw conclusions
what are measures central tendency + which tests
they show the average of the date.
mean - average of all data, affected by anomalies
mode - the most frequent value + useful for categorical dat but - not useful when there are several modes
median - data is ranked and middle value is chosen +not affected by anomalies but -doesnt use all values
what are measures of dispersion + what are they
variance of a data set
range - difference between largest and smallest value + easy to calculate but - affected by anomalies
standard deviation + more precise but - affected by anomalies
what are inferential stats
all us to be sure if our results are significant or not
non-parametric - used with all types of data
parametric - used only with interval/ratio data
what are the 4 types of data
nominal - categorical
ordinal - data which can be rated
interval - set difference between the values + no true zero
ratio - set difference between the values + true zero
what are the 5 stats test
chi square, mann whitney, sign, wilcoxon and spearmans
when do you use each stats test
chi square: IM and nominal
mann whitney: IM and interval
sign: RM/MP and nominal
wilcoxon: RM/MP and interval
spearmans: correlation
