Statistical test Flashcards
What does a statistical test tell us?
Which hypothesis is most likely to be true
Why do psychologists use statistical testing?
Need to know if the results are significant or non significant
What 2 types of hypothesis’ does the researcher use?
Alternative and null
Are you smashing this?
big time
What is the calculated value?
A score which is a unique value just for the particular research
What do you compare the calculated value to?
Critical value
What do we accept when the calculated value is significant?
Alternative hypothesis
What do we accept when the calculated value is not significant?
Null hypothesis
What’s the name of the stats table used?
NO RIC table
List the 3 statistical tests down from nominal?
Sign test
Chi squared
Chi squared
List the 3 statistical tests down from ordinal?
Wilcoxon
Mann Whitney U
Spearman’s Rho
List the 3 statistical tests down from interval?
Related t-test
Unrelated t-test
Pearson’s r
6 statements to decide whether results are significant?
- One or two tailed hypothesis?
- Number of ppt
- Level of significance (p-value)
- Identify calculated value
- Identify critical value
- Interpret findings using the critical value table.
3 marker structure.
The critical value is * due to the P-value being * and where N=*. The calculated value of * must be greater/less than or equal to the critical value * to be significant. In this case the results are/are not significant. We reject/accept the alternative and reject/accept the null.
