Allows the reader to gain an overview of the study and help them decide if they want to read on.
What goes in an abstract?
A summery of the study covering the aims, hypothesis, method, results and conclusion.
How many words in an abstract?
150-250 words

Gives background on relevant theories and studies to explain how aims and hypothesis developed.
What goes in an introduction?
Describing previous research and makes links to the current research. States the aims and hypothesis.
Purpose of a method?
Provides a detailed description of what the researcher did- enough detail for replication.
What goes in a method? SPEED
SAMPLING METHOD-how many took part and specific info eg: gender)

Purpose of discussion?
Discuss the findings and suggest possible uses and future areas of research.
What goes into a discussion?
Implications and future research: explain how findings can be used and any potential follow up study’s.
Summary of results: Description of the statistical results focusing on whether the hypothesis was supported.
Purpose of a reference?
