Static Electricity Flashcards
to get above 80%
what particles CAN move
electrons
what particles CAN’T move
protons and neutrons
what are the 3 points in “Law of Electric Charge”
like charges repel, opposites attract and neutral objects are attracted to both charges (positive and negative)
Rules for using Electrostatic Series (2)
closer to the top is positive/object that comes first on the list is positive
closer to the bottom is negative/object that comes second on the list is negative
what is a conductor with some examples
any metals (copper, steel, aluminum etc)
what is a insulator with some examples
anything other than metal (rubber, plastic, wood etc)
what is charging by conduct?
when a charged object comes in CONTACT with a neutral object, the neutral object then takes the charge of the charged object
what is induction
when a charged object is brought near a neutral object. The presence of a charged object near a neutral conductor will force electrons within the conductor to move.
what are some lightning safety tips
don’t shower during storms as the electricity can be carried through pipes
use lightning rods to prevent electricity from going into the house
during storms the safest place is the car (made from metal)
