Static Electricity Flashcards
Static electricity
is a build up of electric
charge that can occur on good insulators e.g.
polythene and perspex rods.
Polythene rod
A polythene rod gains electrons if a woollen
cloth is rubbed on it (becomes negatively
charged)
Perspex rod
A perspex rod loses electrons if it is rubbed by
a woollen cloth (becomes positively charged)
High electrical pressure
The negative end of the battery is an area
of High Electrical Pressure
Low electrical pressure
The positive end of the battery is an area
of Low Electrical Pressure
Potential difference
The difference in electrical pressure
between the positive and negative ends is
Voltage
This potential difference is known as
Voltage and is measured in volts
Resistance
is the opposition to the flow
of electrons. The unit is the Ohm (Ω),
and it is measured using an Ohmmet
