Q

APU

A

OFF/RUN/START switch…RUN, hold for 3 sec
OFF/RUN/START switch…START, hold for 3 sec, release to RUN
Green APU ON annunciation…check illuminated

after starting APU, and the green annunciator is illuminated, generators should be turned on ASAP. If unable to get both gen online within 1 minute of APU start, shut down APU. Gens not coming online is first indication that AGB is not up to speed or that AGB valve could be faulty. Continued operation could overheat and damage components

Flight Boost Interlock Check

A

Prevents system from being disabled if other system pressure below 2,000psi
FCS switch select to 1, check HYD 2 PRESS light on and psi approx 0
Move switch rapidly to BOOST 2 while observing hyd pressure to ensure no. 1 flight hyd pressure doesn’t drop until no. 2 hyd press is approx 21-2200psi
Repeat steps for other hydraulic system
FCS switch set to both

Q

Engine Start

A
  1. ECL…Stop
  2. Boost pumps…both on
  3. Eng switch…motor, check ENG STARTER light on
  4. ECL…GROUND at 10-15% N1 and engine switch to start
(Engine will not start unless ECL is in GROUND detent position)
  5. PTIT…increasing. Prior to PTIT reaching 450 set eng switch to motor. Set to off once N1 reaches 50%
  6. ENG STARTER light…confirm out
if there is no engine oil pressure indication during
start sequence, shut down engine and investigate

engine should accelerate to ground idle within 45 sec. If start isn’t normal, abort by moving ECL to STOP. If after aborted start PTIT exceeds 350, motor engine immediately until PTIT below 260. Wait 15 seconds after N1 reaches 0 to allow fuel to drain.
Ground idle at 50-55% is min speed. If N1 below 50-55%, shutdown engine and investigate
when starting engine with rotor brake off, don’t delay start of second engine for more than 3 minutes or motor engine for 10 seconds every 3 minutes. Doing so can result in excessive wear on N2 bearing package and seals. N2 section starts turning when other engine is started, however, the lube system of the shutdown engine is driven by N1 section, which doesn’t begin to turn until start switch is moved to motor or start.
  7. Green APU ON light…extinguishes
  8. Amber APU ON light…illuminated

Fuel Pump Check on Startup

A
  1. All fuel pumps…OFF. Check both FUEL BOOST annunciators illuminate. Check both FUEL PRESS indicators (min pressure approx 20psia)
  2. XFEED VALVE switch…XFEED. Check valve position indicator.
  3. Switch each pump ON and OFF in turn. As each pump is switched ON, both FUEL BOOST annunciators should EXTINGUISH, indicating proper pump and cross feed operation.
  4. XFEED VALVE switch…NORM

AFCS Check

A
  1. Establish stable hover 10-15’ AGL
  2. AFCS SYSTEM SEL NO. 2 switch…OFF
  3. Check…No. 1 DASH position indicator shows movement
    * if an attitude deviates or No. 1 DASH indicator shows no movement, apply a a control pulse to that axis to check for attitude stability and DASH indicator pointer movement. If any axis fails to maintain stability or DASH position indicator pointer shows no movement, that axis or DASH actuator is UNSATISFACTORY for flight.*
  4. No. 2 SYSTEM SEL switch…ON
  5. Repeat check for No. 2 AFCS, turning No. 1 AFCS off
