Q

Can the study be considered ethical?

Why do some people consider it unethical?

How did Zimbardo try and deal with these ethical issues?

A

Yes because it followed the ethical guidelines and Stanford’s university’s ethical committee had approved it. There was also no deception meaning the participants knew what they were agreeing to.

So many of the participants were experiencing emotional distress.

He carries out debriefing sessions for several years afterwards and included that here were no lasting negative effects.
