How do you OPERATE Standpipes? (7)
- Don PPE & PPC
- Remove hydrant cover – check for hazards
- Grasp spindle and place hydrant across knee to check washers (present), wingnut (fully down) and cup valve (fully up)
- Place standpipe in hydrant. Turn handles to ship (engage wingnuts)
- Turn head piece clockwise
- Turn spindle to flush hydrant
- To unship turn anti-clockwise using shipping handles.
LWG
Turn spindle all the way clock wise then back half a turn.
GAAM
Turn spindle until resistant. Rotate 3 full turns clcokwise
How do you MAINTAIN Standpipes? (4)
- Check washers are present and for damage
- Check body for damage
- Check all moving parts are working correctly
- Wipe with damp cloth
What are the Standpipe SAFETY practices? (2)
- Wear PPE (gloves, helmet & visor down)
- Don’t lean over the standpipe
