How do you OPERATE Standpipes? (7)

A
  • Don PPE & PPC
  • Remove hydrant cover – check for hazards
  • Grasp spindle and place hydrant across knee to check washers (present), wingnut (fully down) and cup valve (fully up)
  • Place standpipe in hydrant. Turn handles to ship (engage wingnuts)
  • Turn head piece clockwise
  • Turn spindle to flush hydrant
  • To unship turn anti-clockwise using shipping handles.

LWG
Turn spindle all the way clock wise then back half a turn.
GAAM
Turn spindle until resistant. Rotate 3 full turns clcokwise

How do you MAINTAIN Standpipes? (4)

  • Check washers are present and for damage
  • Check body for damage
  • Check all moving parts are working correctly
  • Wipe with damp cloth
