What is unique to CO2 extingusiher CONSTRUCTION? (4)
material, contents, components
- Drawn steel cylinder
- CO2 gas in liquid form
- Non-conductive director horn
- Safety valve operates at 17.2 MPa
What is unique about the Foam extinguishers CONSTRUCTION? (4)
- Stainless steel cylinder
- Mixture = 8.4L water & 600ml of foam concentrate
- Pressure gauge → pressurised with air to 700kPa
- Aspirating branch and nozzle
What is unique to Dry Chem extingusiher CONSTRUCTION? (4)
- Welded steel cylinder
- 9kg of dry chem powder
- Pressurised with inert gas (nitrogen) → pressure gauge connected to internal pickup tube
- Polypropylene or metal applicator
What is unique to Water extingusiher CONSTRUCTION? (4)
- Stainless steel cylinder
- 9L of water
- Pressure gauge → pressurised with air to 700kPa
- 4mm nozzle
What are (3) common CONSTRUCTION components of ALL 4 extinguishers? (3)
- Valve assembly with squeeze handle
- Locking pin & tamper proof seal
- Delivery hose
What are the common OPERATION practices of ALL 4 extinguishers? (2)
- Operate in an upright position
- Pull Pin, Aim, Squeeze & Sweep (PASS)
What is the STREAM & DURATION of ALL 4 extinguishers? (4)
- CO2 = 1-2m & 15sec
- Dry Chem = 3-4m & 10-20sec
- Foam = 5m & 45secs
- Water = 6m & 1min
What is the MAINTAINENCE of ALL 4 extinguishers? (3)
- Visual inspection
- Inspect seal/locking pin & hose
- Check pressure gaugue (⚪🔵🔴), director horn (⚫) & aspirating branch (🔵) → if present
What is the SAFETY of ALL 4 extinguishers? (3)
- Wear PPE
- Be aware that re-ignition may occur
- Have 2nd extinguisher ready (as backup or alternate extinguisher type)
⚪Dry Chem → Use in confined spaces is potentially dangerous & extinguisher may flashback
🔵Foam → Can make floor slippery
What is the LOCATION of ALL 4 extinguishers?
- MKV = OS Centre
- Heavy = OS1
