Standard solution Flashcards
1
Q
What is a standard solution?
A
A solution of accurately known concentration.
2
Q
2 rules of standard solution?
A
- Mass of solute must be accurately measured (preferably using a 3dp balance)
- The correct glassware used to ensure accurate measurement of volume.
3
Q
5 steps of preparing a standard solution:
A
1) Tare a 3dp balance and weigh out the mass of solute into a clean beaker
2)Add deionised water to dissolve the solute and stir till dissolved
3) Transfer to a volumetric flask (rinse equipment with deionised water)
4) Add deionised water to the volumetric flask - ensure meniscus is on the line
5) put lid on flask and invert for thorough mixing
4
Q
8 pieces of equipment needed to make a standard solution?
A
Volumetric flask, 3dp balance, glass rod, deionised water, wash bottle, beaker, dropper pipette, spatula
