Standard Classification of Cavities Flashcards
Universal/National System for numbering
each permanant tooth has it own number, is most commonly used in the United States.
sealant
an enamel sealant is a resin material used to seal pits and fissures
root canal
when the pulp is removed and replaced with a filling
restoration
an agent that is effective in replacing a missing tooth structure. (fillings)
porcelain restoration
outlined with red when to be done or blue when complete and or p inside.
pontic
middle area where the tooth is missing
periodontal pocket
the space in the gingivital sulcus created by gingivital disease. a healthy sulcus is 1 to 3 millimeters… beyond this depth it is a periodontal pocket.
partial dentures
prosthetic device that replace missing teeth
Palmer System for Numbering
the teeth are numbered one through 8 in each quadrant
mobility
when a tooth moves in socket
Maryland bridge
wings on each side that attaches to the abutent teeth.
incipiant
beginning of decay not yet broken through the enamel.
gold restoration
are outlined with diagonal lines, red when to be done or blue when complete.
gold foil
a restoration of several layers of pure gold… not commonally used today.
geometric charts
show the teeth as circles
Drifting
when maxillarlary tooth is removed the tooth the opposing mandibular tooth may “drift” also the teeth adjacent to the space of the missing tooth may drift into that space.
Distamia
the space between the maxillary central incisors. can be used to denote space between two adjacent teeth in the same arch
Denture
full denture replaces the complete arch of the patients daentention.
composite restoration
outlined in red when to be done or blue when complete.
class III
interproximal surfaces (mesial and distal) of Anterior teeth (canines, lateral incisors, and central incisors)
class V
often occure on the cervical third of the facial or lingual surfaces sufaces of the tooth. accures because the patient sucks on sweets or takes medication.

Class IV
are on the interproximal surface (mesial and distal) of anterier teeth and included the incisal edge.
class II
are on the proximal (mesial and distal) surfaces on the posterier teeeth (premolars and molars)
cavity classification
6 classes the last was not part of the original classification and was developed by G.V. Black.
Cantilarever bridge
attached only to one side… suk as missing lateral so it can be attached to the canine for support
Bridge
prosthetic device placed in the mouth were a tooth is missing
anatomical charts
show either the crown of the tooth, the crown and a small portion of the root or either the crown and the complete root.
amalgam restoration
outlined and filled solid blue when complete or red when to be done.
abutments
attaching sides
abscess
localized are of infection
a partial denture
only if SOME of the patients teeth are missing (artificial teeth mounted on a metal frame)

One compound is two complex is three or more.
