Curriculum
CRITICAL TERM
A set course, or program, of study that students are to complete in order to be considered well educated.
Track student learning
Through observation, listen during discussions, evaluate work, conference with them individually, and testing. Try different approaches when students aren’t learning adequately. Avoid excess lecture teaching
Accountability
Teachers are held responsible for student learning using test scores to measure teacher effectiveness
Teachers Note
Insert mini lessons in developed/larger/challenging assignments. Four instance: punctuation for in life essay. If you include text book learning in the lessons, make it meaningful and engaging
Types of Assessments
Formative – progress monitored. Summative – review and recover. FOR learning – determines understanding by essays, projects, and portfolios. OF learning – determines who moves forward by standardized test. Diagnostic – measures discrepancies in achievement goals. Norm referenced – comparing against the average of like students. Criterion referenced – referenced against criteria students are required to know. Capstone/summative – Culminating assessment of what students know. Authentic (performance)- journals, portfolios, interviews, observations, projects that show what you know Graded through a rubric

School Development Program
A reform program at with principles of child, adolescent, and adult development. Is guided by three principles: decision making, problem-solving, and collaboration. Has an environment that promotes interactions necessary for development and learning
Essential Schools
Master a common core of information and skills, and is in-depth and rigorous. Principles; using mind with a focus on essential learning goals, apply goals to all students, personalized teaching and learning, real task performance with multiple forms of evidence.
CCSS
Common Core State Standards – a set of standards describing knowledge and skills that students need for success in college and careers
NCLB Waiver Requirements
States must adapt standards for college/career readiness, establish an accountability system, improve ELL and SE learning, and improve teacher effectiveness via an evaluation system
CCSS Debate
Puts too much focus on tests. Raises the status quo for some but lowers it for others. Test data could be used to railroad quality teachers out of the system. May encroach on the freedoms of homeschoolers. Not solving the real issue which is childhood poverty and it’s effects on the children’s ability to learn and function in a school environment.
