Staging Of Cancer Flashcards

1
Q

Staging

A

Is the process of finding out how much cancer is in a person’s body & where it is located. This helps plan a treatment and to predict a person’s outlook (prognosis.)

Is usually determined by 3 factors: size & growth of the tumor, whether cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, and whether it has spread to other parts of the body.

Stage 0

A

Carcinoma in situ

18
Q

Stage 1, 2, 3

A

Higher numbers indicate more extensive disease: Large tumor size and/or spread of the cancer beyond the organ in which it first developed to nearby lymph nodes and/or tissue or organs adjacent to the location of the primary tumor

19
Q

Stage 4

A

The cancer has spread to distant tissue or organs
