Stages of Motor Development Balance Flashcards
Initial Dynamic balance
balance w/ support, eyes on feet, domint foot leads
Elementary Dynamic Balance
eyes on beam, alternate stepping action, uses arms for balance, loses balance easily
Mature Dynamic Balance
balance w/out support, eyes focused beyond beam movements fluid, relaxed, in control, rarely loses balance, uses arms when needed
Initial Static balance
may lift non supporting leg several inches so the thigh is nearly parallel w/ surface, very unstable, over compensates balance w/out side support
Elementary Static Balance
may lift non supporting leg to a tied-in position on supporting leg, performs better on dominant leg, uses arms for balance but may keep one at the side, can’t balance w/ eyes closed
Mature Static Balance
can balance w/ eyes closed, uses arms and trunk as needed, changes to non dominant leg
