Stages of Motor Control Lab Flashcards
What are the 5 stages of motor control?
Mobility
Stability
Controlled-mobility
Static-dynamic
Skill
What are the developmental positions that we discussed?
Prone on elbows
Sitting
Quadruped
Kneeling
Half Kneeling
Modified plantigrade
Standing
What is mobility?
Presence of functional range of active movement needed to initiate and maintain motion, deficits may be due to tissue tightness, pain, poor motor planning etc.
What is stability?
Ability to maintain a position or posture against gravity that requires muscle contraction around the joint through co-contraction, co-activation, or tonic holding in postural muscles
What is controlled- mobility?
Refers to observable movement in closed chain activities, the BOS does not change instead weight is shifted throughout the BOS
What is static-dynamic?
Refers to observable movement that changes the BOS of the position (ex. lifting a leg, lifting an arm)
What is skill?
The ability to perform locomotion or manipulation from a developmental position (ex. locomotion= creeping from a quadruped position, manipulation= texting from a standing position)
