Dementia

A document that communicates a patient’s specific wishes for end-of-life care should the patient become unable to do so

A document in which patients designate someone to make health care decisions for them if they are unable to do so themselves
Stages in Grief Cycle (Kubler-Ross)
- Denial
- Anger
- Bargaining
- Depression
- Acceptance
Denial
Grieving person cannot/will not believe that the loss is happening or has happened
Anger
Feeling of hostility towards others
Bargaining
The grieving person attempts to avoid the loss by making some kind of deal, such as wanting to live long enough to attend a family occasion
May still be hoping for their previous life
Depression
The reality of the situation takes hold and they feel sad, lonely, and helpless.
Feelings of regret, and self-blame, for not taking better care
Acceptance
Grieving person comes to terms with loss and starts making plans for moving on with life despite loss or impending loss.
Form new goals and enjoy new relationships
There may still be some depression but there is still humor and friendly interactions
