Stability Lab Flashcards
Lumbar Multifidus Test
Test of ability to codnitvely perform the motor skill of contraction of lumbar multifidus independently from the long ES muscles at each lumbar segment
Palpate muscle segments for symmetry
Cue for multifidus
Swell your muscles under my fingers without moving your spine or pelvis
Without moving, tighten your muscles as if you were attempting to tilt your tailbone and draw it upward toward your head
Ideal response for mulifidus
Gentle development of deep tension in muscle occuring slowly and gently
Symmetrical
Co-activation with TA
Not superifcial abdominal muscle contraction
No pelvic motion
Hold 10 sec and repeat 10 times
Transversus Abdominis Cue
slowly draw in lower abdomen away from the elastic of your pants
slowly pull navel up in towards your back
Prone transverse abdominis test with stabilizer
Precision - test of ability to cognitively perform the motor skill of contraction of TA independently from other superficial abdominal muscles
How to do Prone TA test with stabilizer
Place it under abdomen, once in place inflate to 70 mmHg
Instruct pt to slowly lift pelvic floor and gradually draw in abdomen to lift the abdominal contents off stabilizer
- Check for substitutions before looking at pressure gauge
TA will ___ pressure
Int/Ext/Rectus will ____ pressure of cuff
TA = decrease Int/Ext/Rectus = increase
Exercise goal with stabilizer
Reduce pressure by 4-6 mmHg 10 sec holds, 10 times
Lumbopelvic Control Test
Patient lays supne with stabilizer across lumbar region, base at S2
Inflate stabilizer to 40 mmHg - pt is instructed to attempt to maintain this pressure throughout test
Instruct pt to draw up pelvic floor and draw navel inward and upward - maintain this contraction
