What were they doing
Mass meeting/parade, political speeches and banners with ‘Votes for all!’ and ‘Liberty’. 60,000 people
Motives
Improve conditions for working class and demobalised soldiers by gaining suffrage and therefor the governments attention
What occurred
Manchester magistrates feared a revolution so sent the MANCHESTER YEOMANRY cavalry into the crowd with Sabres resulting in the death of 11 and 400 wounded
Punishments
Lord Liverpool (the PM) passed the ‘six acts’ and sent 10,000 troops to the area.
Hunt and leaders blamed and sentenced to two years in prison
Outcome
The press heavily criticised the ‘Peterloo Massacre’.
Eventually reform acts in 1832 1867 and 1884 gave more people the vote
