What are some of the causes of hypogonadism?
Primary causes - Klinefelter syndrome, undescented testicles, mumps orchitis, haemochromatosis, injury to the testes, cancer treatment. Secondary causes; Kallmann’s syndrome, pituitary disorders, inflammatory diseases, HIV/AIDS, medication, obesity and normal aging
What are some of the causes of delayed puberty?
Medical conditions or treatments which lead to hypogonadism; - Celiac disease, - IBD, - Underactive thyroid, - Diabetes mellitus, - Cystic fibrosis, - Sickle cell disease, - Liver and kidney disease, - Anorexia, - Autoimmune
What is the difference between primary and secondary hypogonadism?
Primary - Low testosterone and high-normal to levels of LH and FSH. Secondary - Low levels of testosterone and normal to low levels of LH and FSH
What is the treatment for hypogonadism
- Testosterone replacement therapy (injections every month)
