1
Q

A

Q

strain

A

is the deformation, or change in size, of a body caused by external loads.
tensile loads - stretch
compressive loads - shorten

Q

hooke’s law

A

states that up to a certain unit stress (elastic limit) unit stress (P/A) is directly proportional to unit strain (∆/L)

Q

resolving forces

A

replace one force with two or more other forces that will produce the same effect on a body as the original force

Q

charpy v-notch test

A
ductility test where a piece of material has a v-notch cut into the top
tests how much energy it takes to make the notch go through the whole piece
breaks quickly (little energy) - material is brittle
breaks slowly (lots of energy) - material is ductile
