Basal cell carcinoma
What is it often preceded by?
Actinic keratosis, HPV infection, sun exposure, Xeroderma
Where is it most commonly found on the body?
Lips, hands, neck, head
What is the pathophys?
Malignancy of keratinocytes of skin/mucous membranes leads to hyperkeratosis and ulceration
What is Bowen’s disease?
Squamous Cell Carcinoma In Situ (slow growing)
What will the lesion look like?
Red, elevated nodule
What will the borders look like?
White scaly or crusted bloody margins
What is the diagnostic test?
Biopsy of epidermal & dermal cells
What is the treatment of choice?
Excision
What are other options?
Electrodissiceation & currettage, Moh’s (recurrent/aggressive), radiation
