The Incidence of SCC……
increases with age and the peak incidence is usually around 66 years old.
Males are more likely, and so are white people
What causes SCC?
Skin that is regularly exposed to sunlight or other ultraviolet radiation
The earliest form of squamous cell cancer is called….
Bowen Disease
What will SCC look like in clinic?
Shallow ulcer with heaped-up edges, often covered by a plaque, usually in a sun-exposed area.
Typical surface changes may include scaling, ulceration, crusting, a cutaneous horn.
What are some symptoms of SCC?
Local pain, numbness, twitching or muscle weakness, visual changes
What is the prognosis of SCC?
Early stage tumours fare well (overall 5-yr survival rate >90%) when the tumours are adequately treated. Prognosis gets worse as the disease progresses.
