William McKinley
President during the Spanish-American War. He is associated with imperialism and industrialization. Theodore Roosevelt was his Vice President. When McKinley was assassinated, Roosevelt became president.
James Garfield
President who opposed the spoils system, so he proposed Civil Service exams to reform the system. He was assassinated in 1881.
Thomas Edison
Opened an “invention factory” in Menlo Park, New Jersey. He gave the world the light bulb and the phonograph among other inventions.
Wilbur and Orville Wright
They invented the airplane at the start of the 20th century.
Franz Ferdinand
He was the Archduke of Austria-Hungary. His death led to the start of World War I.
Henry Ford
He started an automobile company and became famous for his use of the assembly line to manufacture cars.
Andrew Carnegie
A robber baron who became famous for manufacturing steel.
Theodore Roosevelt
Rough rider during the Spanish-American War. He became President after McKinley was killed. He supported the construction of the Panama Canal, became known as a trustbuster, started the National Parks, and started the Bull Moose Party.
John D. Rockefeller
A robber baron who became famous for dominating the oil business with his Standard Oil trust.
Woodrow Wilson
President during World War I. He proposed the League of Nations as part of his 14 Points plan.

It increased the rate of production and lowered prices for consumers.

They formed to improve workplace conditions, shorten hours, and increase wages.
