Spring 2 Flashcards
What does Chemical energy include?
Fuels, foods or other chemicals found in batteries
What does Kinetic energy stores describe?
The energy an object has because it is moving.
What is gravitational potential energy?
The energy stored in an object because of its position, such as an object above the ground
What is elastic energy?
Energy stored in a springy object when you stretch it or squash it.
What is thermal energy?
The energy a substance has because of its temperature.
Energy transfers
Energy can be transferred from one energy store to another.
What is the equation for work done?
Work done = Force applied x distance
Gravitational potential energy store
Change in objects gravitational potential energy store = weight x change of height
Gravitational potential energy store with mass
Gravitational potential energy store = mass x gravitational field strength x change of height
Elastic potential energy
Elastic potential energy = 0.5 x spring constant x extension2
Efficiency
Useful output energy transferred
_____________________________________ x 100%
Total input energy supplied
Power (watts)
Energy transferred to appliance
_____________________________________
Time taken for energy to be transferred
Specific heat capacity
Energy transferred = mass x specific heat capacity x temperature change
