Autumn 2 P9 Flashcards
Speed and distance time graphs.
To find the speed (meters per second) find the distance travelled (meters) divided by the time taken (seconds).
For a distance time graph the gradient of the line on a distance - time graph represents speed
Velocity and acceleration
Velocity= speed in a given direction
Displacement= The distance travelled in a given direction
Acceleration= The acceleration of an object is its change of velocity per second.
What is acceleration measured in?
Meters per second squared (m/s2)
Write the equation for acceleration
a= v-u
—–
t
Braking
Braking reduces the velocity of a vehicle. The velocity is consistent until the driver applies the brakes.
Analysing Distance Time Graphs
On a graph, the graph represents the distance travelled on the y axis and the time taken on the x axis.
The gradient represents the speed.
Velocity time graphs
Acceleration=
time taken
You can work out the acceleration by calculating the gradient.
More analysing motion graphs
Make sure that you know the distance time and speed triangle to either multiply or divide
