Q

Newtons second Law

A

The law says the acceleration of an object is proportional to the resultant force and there is an inversely proportional mass to the object.

Q

Speeding up or slowing down

A

If the resultant force is in the forwards direction, an object will speed up, if the resultant force is in the backwards direction, an object will slow down.

Q

Weight

A

The weight of an object is the force acting on it due to gravity (measured in Newtons). Weight = mass x g

The mass of an object depends on the quantity of matter in it. Mass is measured in Kilograms (kg).

Q

Terminal Velocity

A

The acceleration of an object decreases as it falls due to the friction force speeding up. When the friction force is equal to its weight it is at a TERMINAL VELOCITY.
Forces are balanced (no resultant force)

Q

Forces and Braking

A

Braking force needed to stop a car depends on…

The speed of the vehicle
The mass of the vehicle

The higher the speed the longer the stopping distance

Q

Stopping Distances (thinking and braking)

A

The thinking distance is the amount of time it takes to release the obstruction in the road before you start braking (reaction time). Then the mount of meters it takes for the car to come to a stop.

Stopping Distance= Thinking Distance + Braking Distance
