What is chicken pox?
It is a highly infectious disease caused by a virus. It is a common childhood illness that can be spread through the air
What are some symptoms of chicken pox?
A rash that looks like blisters all over their bodies. The blisters are very itchy. People also get a runny nose and a cough
How can you protect yourself from chicken pox?
There is a vaccine to stop you from getting chicken pox
What is Mumps?
Mumps is a disease that is spread through saliva. It is caused by a virus that cannot be treated with antibiotics
What are some symptoms of mumps?
The virus infects the saliva glands which are between the ear and jaw. When you have mumps these glands swell and become painful
How can you prevent/treat mumps?
The doctor can give you medicine to control pain and fever. Mumps can be prevented by having the MMR immunisation
What is the MMR immunisation?
Measles, mumps and rubella
What is athlete’s foot?
A common fungal skin infection
What are the symptoms of athlete’s foot?
Itchy between the toes
Tender skin
Stinky feet
How can you treat athlete’s foot?
Antifungal cream
How can you prevent athlete’s foot?
Wash your feet daily
Wear clean cotton socks
Avoid tight closed shoes especially during summer
Dry between toes after washing
What is ringworm?
A fungal infection that looks like a worm under your skin (it is not a worm at all)
How can you treat ringworm?
Antifungal cream
How can you prevent ringworm?
Wear flip-flops in public bathrooms and showers
Wash sports clothes often
Wash your hands after playing with your pets
Take a shower after contact sports
