What is animal cruelty?
Animal Cruelty is defined asdepriving an animal of food, water, shelter, and/or veterinary care. Torturing, maiming, or killing animals is also animal cruelty.
List 9 things that pets need.
- A warm and dry place to sleep
- Fresh water
- Shelter from the sun and rain
- Proper food, not just scraps
- A place to run and play (or taken for a walk each day)
- Toys to play with
- Injections for rabies and other diseases
- Deworming
- A fenced property to keep them safe
How are pets treated badly?
People don’t look after them properly and some hurt them
How are farm animals treated badly?
They are often under-fed or made to work long hours pulling heavy loads. They are often kept in small enclosures and are slaughtered for their meat
How are wild animals treated badly?
There natural habitats are destroyed. They are shot for food, fun or to make items such as necklaces and are often slaughtered cruelly. Poachers cut off the horns of live rhinos and leave the animal to die a slow painful death
What are game rangers?
People who are trained to look after wild animals
Are zoos a good place or a bad place to keep animals?
Some zoos have big cages and the animals are well looked after and treated with dignity. But sometimes visitors ill-treat the animals
How are circus animals treated badly?
Circuses sometimes keep animals in small cages, spend many long hours training them, whip them and don’t give them enough food. Their cages may also be left in the sun and rain
What does SPCA stand for?
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
What does the SPCA do?
They take in stray abandoned or neglected animals so they can find new loving homes
What does AACL stand for?
Animal Anti-Cruelty League
What does the AACL do?
Their aim is to prevent and eliminate all cruelty to all animals
