what is a skill?
Learned actions that when mastered, can be done consistently with ease and correct technique
what are abilities?
stable traits ,inherited from your parents, that determine an individual’s potential to learn or acquire skills
what are the skill classifications?
basic to complex continuum
open to closed continuum
self paced to externally paced continuum
gross to fine continuum
What it is intrinsic feedback?
Feedback from within
what is extrinsic feedback?
feedback from an external source
What are performance goals?
> Personal standards to be achieved
>don’t compare themselves to others
what are outcome goals?
goals that focus on the end result e.g. winning
what is SMART target setting?
Specific Measurable Accepted Realistic Time-bound
what is verbal guidance?
guidance provided by speaking
what is manual guidance?
physically moving the performer to guide them
what is mechanical guidance?
using mechanical aids to assist a performer
what is visual guidance?
guidance that you can see
e.g. a demonstration
what is arousal?
physical and mental state of alertness varying from deep sleep to intense excitement
what is direct aggression?
aggression aimed at another person using physical contact
e.g. high tackle
what is indirect aggression?
player hits the ball or an object to gain an advantage
e.g. smashing the ball with power to win the point (lower opponent’s confidence)
what is an introvert?
> people who tend to be quiet, shy and thoughtful
tend to play skills that require low arousal and fine skills
e.g. archery, darts
what is an extrovert?
> sociable, enthusiastic and loud people
>tend to play team sports where gross skills are required
what is extrinsic motivation?
drive experienced by a performer when striving to achieve a reward
what is intrinsic motivation?
drive that comes from within the perormer
What is knowledge of results?
Feedback about the outcome
e.g. whether you scored or not
What is knowledge of performance?
Feedback about the quality of performance
e.g. technique
Why is positive feedback good for beginners?
Keeps them motivated
What is negative feedback?
Used to inform the athlete what was wrong about the movement so they can achieve the correct movement
