What are the two types of stills for distilling spirits?
Pot and Continuous
What are common materials used to create spirits?
Grains, Fruit, Plants, Vegetable, Sugar Canes
Why distill a fermented beverage?
to separate and remove the diluting components of a liquid such as water and other impurities to capture the essence of a beverage through the purity of alcohol.
What is the difference between a Pot and Continuous Still?
Pot = slow, gentle, flavors from base are incorporated,
*scotch and cognac, generally wood-aged spirits
Continuous = running, faster, removes many flavors and impurities
*vodka and most bourbons
Describe the aging of a distillate product?
Immediately bottled (vodka, tequila, light rum)
Aged in Oak (whisky, brandies)
