* Fun fact
- Rochelt sources fruit from growers around Europe, such as wild rowanberries that grow in the southern part of Finland. Also, oranges from Italy, apricots, pears, and apples from Austria
- Rochelt is based in Tyrol, western Austria
- They source only the best fruit, ripened to perfection, the fruit is then mashed and naturally fermented in stainless steel vats. They distill the spirit two times in custom-made copper potstills that follow old Tyrolean traditions.
They use up to 80 kg of fruit, only the finest part of the distillate, to produce one liter of spirit. The spirit is then aged in large glass balloons, known as Dame Jeanne, covered only with linen cloth to breathe and develop. For rowanberries, it’s aged for 8 years.
- They were founded in the 1980s by Günther Rochelt but are currently run by the son-in-law, Alexander Rainer. They use a classic old Tyrolean “Pincer” bottle shape. The story is over 200 years old, and it is told that a young apprentice picked up a bottle with his metal pincers while the glass was still soft, creating this classic shape.
Each variety has its own unique stopper, and the bottle also features a “pourer” so that the spirit can be poured and enjoyed almost drop by drop
