Spinal Tracts Flashcards
Reticulospinal tract
Facilitates and inhibits voluntary and reflex activity
Spino thalamic tract (anterior)
Sensory tract for light touch and pressure; dull, aching pain
Spinocerebellar tracts (dorsal)
Joint sense and position; unconscious proprioception
Tectospinal tract
Movement of head in response to auditory or visual stimulus
Spinoolivary tract
proprioceptive inputs
Spino reticular tracts
Spinovisual reflexes and assists with movements of the eyes towards a stimulus
Fascicles cuneatus (posterior or dorsal columns)
Proprioception, 2 PT discrimination, vibration of the upper extremities
Fasciculus gracilus (posterior or dorsal columns)
Vibration, 2 pt discrimination, proprioception of lower extremities
Spino thalamic tract (lateral)
Sensory tract for pain and temperature
Vestibulospinal tract
Facilitates extensor muscles and inhibits flexor muscles
Corticospinal tract (anterior)
Ipsilateral, voluntary, skilled movement
Corticospinal tract (lateral)
Contra lateral voluntary fine movement
Spinocerebellar tracts (ventral)
Joint sense and position; unconscious proprioception
Rubrospinal tract
Influences flexor muscle tone, inhibits extensor
Damage to the corticospinal tracts results in what 3
Positive babinski reflex, absent cremaster and abdominal reflexes, and loss of fine motor or skilled voluntary movement
