Common Gait Deviations Flashcards
Lateral trunk bending
Weak gluteus medius
Limited hip extension
Spastic/ tight hip flexors
Antalgic gait
Stance time abbreviated on the painful limb; uninvolved limb has short step length
Excessive knee flexion- 2
Knee flexion contracture, weak quadriceps
Supination-4
Spastic invertors, weak evertors, pes varus, genu valgum
Abnormal synergistic activity- 3
Hip adduction, hip and knee extension, plantarflexion, scissoring/adducted pattern
Backward trunk lean
Weak gluteus Maximus
Foot flat- 2
Weak dorsiflexors, limited ROM
Forward trunk lean- 2
Weak quadriceps; hip and knee flexion contractures
Knee hyperextension- 3
Weak quadriceps, plantar flexion contracture, extensor spasticity
Excessive plantarflexion/ equinus gait
Spasticity/ contracture of plantarflexors
Pronation-4
Weak invertors, spastic evertors, pes valgus, genu valgum
Toe claw
Spastic toe flexors
Excessive hip flexion- 2
Weak hip extensors; tight hip/knee flexors
Inadequate push off-3
Weak plantarflexors, decreased ROM, pain in the forefoot
