spinal ROM Flashcards
how to perform
flex/extend/side flex
cervical - tape measure from chin to sternum/acromion
lumbar - tape measure from fingers to floor
Schobers test: mark PSIS, measure from 5cm below + 10cm above
rotation - visual estimate
contraindications / precautions
MSK: fracture, eptopic ossification, joint dislocation & infection & inflammation
CR:
CV:
N: pain
fragile bone conditions, bony ankylosis, cancer, acute soft tissue injury, hypermobility, prolonged immobilisation, haemotoma, haemophilia
purpose
measure joint ROM to get them moving & decide whether healthy enough to be discharged
know effectiveness of treatment, identify changes
functional mobility
determine structures affecting movement
decide baseline limitations
how to know if normal
flexion - 50°
extension - 15°
lateral flexion - 20°
rotation - 5°
observe willingness to move, quality of movement, where movement occurs, range, pain, deviations
structures
cervical/lumbar spine
principles
measure x3, take average
isolate the movement
tape measure is straight
correct positioning, no trick movements
