peripheral joint ROM Flashcards
how to perform
position patient & goniometer, ask patient to move, fix trick movements, measure range
risk: damage joints
modify: use equipment
dorsiflexion - axis 1.5cm below MM
shoulder F/E - 2.5cm below lateral acromion
shoulder Abd - 1.3cm below anterior acromion
schobers test - spine
contraindications / precautions
MSK: fracture, eptopic ossification, joint dislocation & infection & inflammation
CR:
CV:
N: pain
fragile bone conditions, bony ankylosis, cancer, acute soft tissue injury, hypermobility, prolonged immobilisation, haemotoma, haemophilia
purpose
assess effectiveness of treatment
know whether healthy enough to be discharged
functional mobility
determine structures affecting movement
decide baseline limitations
how to know if normal
compare to other side
observe willingness to move, quality of movement, where movement occurs, range, pain, deviations
structures
joint actively moved through available range, then measured with a goniometer
principles
measure x3, take average
compare to normal side
isolate the movement
goniometer is fixed + aligned
correct positioning, no trick movements
consider whether a 2 joint muscle to avoid passive insufficiency
