Spinal Grey Matter Flashcards
Consists of fine myelinated and un myelinated dorsal root fibers that enter medial portion of this zone
Zone of Lissauer (dorsolateral fasciculus)
Láminas located in dorsal horn of spinal cords
I-IV
Contains terminals of dorsal root fibers that mediate pain and temp sensations that synapse on posteromarginal nucleus
Lámina I
Axons of this nucleus cross opposite side and ascend as lateral spinothalamic tract
Posteromarginal nucleus
Contains sustancia gelatinosa
Lamina II
Neurons modulate activity of pain and temp afferent fibers and activation of receptors release substance p and glutamate
Sustancia gelatinosa
Contain proper sensory nucleus
III-IV
Receives input from sustancia gelatinosa and contributes to spinothalamic tract mediating: pain, temp, and crude touch
Proper sensory nucleus
Neurons in this lamina receive descending fibers from corticospinal and rubrospinal tracts and give rise to axons that contribute to spinothalamic tracts
Lamina V
Present only in cervical and lumbar segments
Median segments: receive muscle spindle and joint afferents
Lateral segments: receive fibers from descending corticospinal and rubrospinal pathways
(Somatic motor processes)
Lamina VI
Contains nucleus dorsalis of Clarke, sympathetic preganglionic neurons that make up intermediolateral cell column and renshaw cells
Lamina VII
At what level is nucleus dorsalis of Clarke found
C8-L2
Nucleus receives muscle and tendon afferents and axons form dorsal spinocerebellar tract which relays information to ipsilateral cerebellum
Nucleus dorsalis of Clarke
Level where interomediolateral cell column is found
T1-L2
Located in ventral horn of spinal cord
Lamina VIII-IX
