spinal cord, spinal nerve, and dorsal scapular region Flashcards
what are the seven type of synovial joints?
plane
hinge
pivot
bicondylar
condylar
saddle
ball and socket
what movements does plane joints allow?
sliding or gliding
(acrioclavicular joint + radio-ulnar)
what movements do hinge joints allow?
flexion and extension
(elbow!)
what movements do pivot joints allow?
rotation on one axis
(AA joint)
what movement does the bicondylar joint allow?
movement in one axis with limited rotation around a second axis
(knee joint)
what movement does condylar joint allow?
allow movements around two axes that are at right angles to each other
flexion, extension, abduction, adduction , and limited circumduction
(wrist joint)
what movement does saddle joints allow?
permit flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, and circumduction
(joint of the thumb)
what movement does ball and socket joints allow?
movement around multiple axes
(hip joint)
what are the three types of joints?
fibrous joints
synovial joints
cartilaginous joints
what are examples of fibrous joints?
sutures = skull,
gomphoses = teeth
syndesmoses = bones attached by ligament
what are examples of cartilaginous joints?
synchondroses = growth plates
symphyses = pubic symphysis
what is spina binifida?
a disorder in which the two sides of vertebral arches fail to fuse during development
what is spina bifida occulta?
there is a defect in the vertebral arch of L5 or S1
Describe 2 severe forms of spina bifida.
myelomeningocele: large out pouching of the meninges with portion of the spinal cord + CSF
meningocele: contains JUST cerebrospinal fluid
What are the five groups/regions of the spinal nerves?
cervical (8)
thoracic (12)
lumbar (5)
sacral (5)
coccygeal (1)
