How many sections make up the spinal column and what are their names in descending order?
Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, coccygeal
What are the three main functions of the spinal column?
Permit movement, protect the spinal cord, support the body in its upright position
Why is the spine curved in an s shape?
To provide flexibility of movement and resilience, the s shape enables weight to be centred over the feet
What is the name of the vertical line that can measure curvature of the spine?
The plumb line
What are the three main postural deviations?
scoliosis, kyphosis and lordosis.
