Spinal Anatomy Flashcards
What doesn’t the Atlas Vertebra have?
A Vertebral Body, instead it is shaped more like a ring.
What is the Joint called that connects the Atlas to the Occipital Bone.
- Atlanto-Occipital Joint.
- About 50% of the head Flexion and Extension occurs at this Joint.
What is the Large Bony Protrusion called found on the Axis?
- The Odontoid Process.
- This points up from the Vertebral Body and fits into the ring-shaped Atlas above it.
What is the Joint called between the Atlas and Axis?
- Atlanto-Axial Joint.
- The Atlas is able to rotate around the Axis on this and causes 50% of the heads rotation.
What’s Unique about C7
Usually has the most prominent Spinous Process (Vertebra Prominens).
What’s the C7-T1 Joint called?
Cervicothoracic Junction.
Why do more muscles connects to the C7 Spinous Process compared to other Cervical Vertebrae?
- Larger Size
- Key Location
What three longitudinal arteries supply the spinal cord with blood?
- Anterior Spinal Artery
- Left and Right Posterior Arteries
Name all 3 lawyers of Tissue that make up the Meninges that protect the spinal cord:
- Pia Matter
- Arachnoid Mater
- Dura Matter
