Spermiogenesis Flashcards
What is spermatogenesis?
Spermiogenesis is a process by which seminiferous tubeles in the testicles produce sperm cells.
What is the testis composed of?
The testis is composed of lobules, each contains 1-4 seminiferous tubeles which produce spems
What are leydig cells and where are they
Between the seminiferous tubeles, there are a grp of Leydig cells (interstitial cells) which produce the male sex hormone testestorone.
In what direction does spermatogenesis happen
Spermatogenesis takes place in the seminiferous tubeles in a centripetal direction (basal lamina to the lumen.)
Name the phases of spermatogenesis
Multiplication
Growth
Maturation/Meiosis
Differentiation/Spermiogenesis
Multiplication of spermiogenesis
-multiplication is characterized by mitosis.
-Spermatogonia are diploid cells that divide by mitosis from puberty till death
where are the spermatogonia located
-the male undifferentiated sperm cells or spermatogonia are located against the basal lamina.
growth spermatogenesis.
spermatogonia undergoes interphase where duplication of DNA and synthesis of RNA and proteins takes place.
SPERMATOGONIA enlarge and become PRIMARY SPERMATOCYTES/SPERMATOCYTES 1
meiosis sperm.
PRIMARY SPERMATOCYTES undergo meiosis 1 to give 2 haploid SECONDARY SPERMATOCYTES/SPERMATOCYTE 2
SECONDARE SPERMATOCYTES goes through meiosis 2 to give 4 haploid SPERMATIDS
Spermatogonia/differentiation
each spermatid undergoes cellular transformation to become mature sperm cells.
sertoli cells
sertoli cells sustains and nouriches the daughter cells of spermatogonia
where are the sertoli cells located?
inside the seminiferous tubels
what are the changes that happen during spermatogonia
golgi bodies -> acrosome (contains enzymes that pentrate the membranes of the ova.
centriole -> tail/flagellum
mitochondria -> midpiece (energy)
cytoplasm is eleminated
schematize the spermatogonia phase
What are the chr fomulas in the dif phases of spermatogenesis
Multiplication :spermatogonia 2n=46/1 tid
Growth: Spermatocyte 1: 2n=46/2tids
Maturation: M1: spermatocyte 2: n=23/2 tids
M2: spermatids: n=23/1 tid
Diffrentiation: sperm cell n=23 1 tid
