Fertilization Flashcards
what is fertilization
fertilization is the union between 2 haploid games, the sperm and ovum which gives rise to a diploid cell caled the zygote
the passage of male gamete in the female reproductive track
during sexual intercourse, millions of sperms are deposited in the vagina but less than 1% reach the uterus, most of them degenerate and only a few hundreds reach the oviduct which is the site or fertilization.
Sperm capacitation
During their passage, the sperm cells acquire their fertilization capacity and retain it for 48 hrs. It involves biochemical changes in the plasma membrane of the sperm cells.
Schematize the secondary oocyte
which phase is dominant in human species
The diploid phase is the predominant while the haploid is restricted to gamete production
where do sperms acquire their motility and fertilizing capicity
motility in epididyus
fertilizing capacity in female genital track
