Oogenesis Flashcards
Inside the ovaries, there are follicles, name them
1-Primoridal follicle: contains oocyte 1 with few follicular cells
2- primary follicle: contains oocyte 1 and a single follicular cell.
3- secondare follicle: contains oocyte 1 with many layes of follicular cells containing small cavities.
4-Cavitary follicle: contains oocyte 1 with many layers of follicular cells and aq big cavity called the antrum
5- Graafian follicle/mature follicle: contains oocyte2
At what phase pf meiosis are the Primoridal follicle, primary, secondare and cavitary follicles locked at?
P1
what happens to the graadian follicle at ovulation
At ovulation, the graafian follicle releases the oocyte 2 from the ovary to the oviduct.
The remaining part changes to a yellow body
schematize an ovary
What is folliculogenesis?
Its the development of follicular cells which starts during fetal life and resumes its activity at puberty.
About 500 primoridal follicle which have been in rest for about 10 years resume their growth activity before each cycle.
Only 1 of these follicles will reach maturity and the other will degenarate
What is the oogenesis
Its a process where oogonia are converted to the ova (gamete)
where does oogenesis happen
in the cortical zone of the ovaries
multiplication of oogenesis
during embryonic life, the male undifferentiated germ cells or oogonia divide by mitosis.
growth of oogenesis
the oogonia synthesize and give rise to DIPLOID PRIMARY OOCYTES or OOCYTE 1
each oocyte 1 is surrounded by a few follicular cells to form the Primoridal follicle
meiosis or maturation of oogenesis
- the oocyte 1 starts meiosis 1 and makes its first arrest at prophase 1 until the female reaches puberty.
-Few hrs before ovulation, meiosis 1 is resumed to give secondary oocyte and the 2nd polar body
-In order to continue meiosis 2, fertilization must take placem if not, the oocyte 2 will die after 24 of its release. Of fertilization takes place, the oocyte 2 will finish meiosis 2 producing the ootid and the 2nd polar body
differentiation of oogenesis
Ootid will differentiate to an ovum
what is menopause
its the end of oocytes
what happens to the yellow body if fertilization takes place
the yellow stay active for the 1st 3 months of pregnancy.
where does oogensis begin and end
begins in ovaries ends in oviduct
