What occurs in spermatogenesis (phase 1) ?
A
- spermatogonia (stem cells) undergo mitotic divisions
- spermatogonia split into types (A/I/B)
- generates primary spermatocytes
- Stallion performs this 8 times = 256

What occurs at the meiosis stage (phase 2)?
A
- spermatocytes undergo meiosis 1 into secondary spermatocytes then undergo meiosis 2 to transfer into spermatids
-secondary spermatocytes = short lived
-primary spermatocytes = longest lived germ cell

What occurs at the spermiogenesis (phase 3)?
A
- differenation occurs
- spermatid forms the acrosome, flagellum and microcondrial helix
