Phoneme-Grapheme Corr Route is impaired
Pt cannot spell non words ( even when they are told they are nonsense words)
Their either lexicalize the word or give up on task
May not be able to produce letter associated with a sound
Must generate spelling from meaning
Surface Agraphia

SO, they can still use PCG (bypass route)
Can spell nonwords
Most errors on words with irregular spellings, tend to regularize spellings

1) Phoneme-Grapheme Correspondence Route: bypass route, AAS–>PL–>PGC–>GL
2) Direct Lexical Route: AAS–>AIL–>SS–>GOL–>GL
Peripheral Impairments of Spelling
1) Spelling assembly impairments
2) Loss of information about order of letters
3) Problem in letter form selection (unable to write letters, but can copy) - struggle with generative writing
4) Spatial disorder in writing
