Speed And Newtons Laws Flashcards
2 Factors that affect the gravitational attraction between objects
- Mass of the object’s
2. Distance between the objects
Distance
- The farther apart two objects are, the less the gravitational force between them
- Ex. Astronaut in Space
Mass
- The more mass an object has, the greater the gravitational force.
- Ex. Weight on a scale
Acceleration
- The rate at which velocity changes
* SI Unit- meters per second per second. (m/s × m/s)
Gravity
•A force that pulls objects toward each other
-Law of universal gravitation states that the force of gravity acts between all objects in the universe
•Ex. Solar System
Friction
- Is the force that two surfaces exert on each other when they rub against each other
- Ex. Rubbing hands together
Velocity
•Speed in a given direction
Force
•Is a push or pull
-It is described by its strength and by the direction in which it acts
3 Ways Acceleration Changes
- Increasing Speed
- Decreasing Speed
- Changing Directions
Speed Formula
Time Formula
Distance Formula
Speed = Distance ÷ Time
Time = Distance ÷ Speed
Distance = Speed ×Time
Calculating Speed
•The distance an object travels in a certain amount of time
Newtons 1st Law of Motion
•Law of Inertia
- Law of Inertia
- Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion
- Law States: an object in motion will stay in motion, an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an outside force
Newtons 2nd Law of Motion
•Law of Acceleration
- Acceleration depends upon the objects mass and force acting on the object
- Force = Mass × Acceleration
- Unit Label= N (Newton) for force
- (More Mass = More Force)
Newtons 3rd Law of Motion
•Law of Action-Reaction
•For every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction
-Equal Force, opposite direction
•Ex. Shooting a gun/rocket blasting off
