What is dysphonia?
Problem with speaking (vocal cords, mouth etc)
What is dysphasia?
Problem with brain affecting generation of speech
What is dysarthria?
Unclear articulation of speech
What is apraxia of speech?
Disorder that affects the brain pathways involved in planning the sequence of movements involved in producing speech
The brain knows what it wants to say, but cannot properly plan and sequence the required speech sound movements.
Name 3 types of dysphasia
Expressive dysphasia (Broca's, broken) Receptive dysphasia (Wernicke's, fluent) Conduction (repetition difficulty)
How do you test for receptive dysphasia?
3 stage command
What do you expect for in a speech assessment?
Uvula, fasciculations, jaw jerk, MMSE, tremors, tongue
How do you test for dysarthria?
British constitution
West register street
How do you test for apraxia?
Papapa Kakaka (easier) Pataka katapa (harder)
What do you look for in an ear and hearing exam?
Hearing aids Rash (herpes zoster) Wax Inflammation Otitis media, effusion Discharge Scars
What does a weber test heard loudest in right ear mean?
Either left sided sensorineural deafness or right sided conductive deafness
What does Rinne heard loudest in air mean?
Normal
What does Rinner heard loudest in bone mean?
Conductive deafness
Which tuning fork do you use for Rinne and weber?
512 Hz
