Specphic heat capacity Flashcards
```
~~~
What is spechpihic heat cpacity?
The amount of energy needed to raise a temperature of 1kg of the sustance to by 1c
Different substances have different heat capacitys
If a substance has a low specific heat capacity, it heats up and cools down quickly (ie. it takes less energy to change its temperature)
If a substance has a high specific heat capacity, it heats up and cools down slowly (ie. it takes more energy to change its temperature)
How much the temperature of a substance increases depends on what?
- Mass of the subsatnce heated
- Type of material
- Amount of nergy put into the system
Engery put in is in the form of thermal energy
What is the specphic heat capcity of water?
4200J/kg (celcuis)
What is the forumula for clauclating specphic heta capapcity?
Change in thermal energy= Mass x Specphic heat cpacity x Change in temerpreture
ΔQ = mcΔT
ΔQ = change in thermal energy, in joules (J)
m = mass, in kilograms (kg)
c = specific heat capacity, in joules per kilogram per degree Celsius (J/kg °C)
ΔT = change in temperature, in degrees Celsius (°C) or kelvin
